Together with the JNM. Collecting for ARISE if easy and fun!
The Netherlands have several organizations that aim to get young people involved with nature. Earlier this month, we visited one of them, the Jeugdbond voor Natuur- en Milieustudies, during their summer camp in the Biesbosch natural area.
We told them about our work: ARISE (and our friends at BGE) will be infrastructures for the biologists of the future, and we could find those people here. But more importantly, we talked about the help we need. As we explained before, ARISE needs samples - lot's of them. Roughly half the species in the Netherlands don't have a DNA barcode yet, even some quite common ones. We're collecting as many as we can, but we can certainly use all the help we can get.
So we gave the JNM members a target list and some nets, and off they went!
And they delivered, too. Here's our collection manager Giada, looking very happy with the first sample of the day.
Are you a nature organization (either aimed at adults or younger people) and would like us to drop by at your summer camp too? Drop us an email at info@arise-biodiversity.nl and we'll see what we can do.
Are you a member of such an organization? Care to help us out collecting samples? You might be interested in reading this blog and coming to our expert event on October 7.
