ARISE is live
November 11, 2025, finally marked the day. After years of preparation and construction, the ARISE research infrastructure has transitioned into its operational phase. This means our species identification platform is now fully accessible for research and public use.
Identifying species using DNA, images, sounds, and AI models is now possible all in one place. While we continue to fine-tune the infrastructure behind the scenes, we invite you to test the platform's capabilities for yourself.
A collective commitment
This milestone would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of the ARISE staff across our four partner institutions and hundreds of volunteers. Program Manager Elaine van Ommen Kloeke reflects on this collaboration: “What makes ARISE special is the enormous amount of knowledge and time contributed by everyone – from the scientists who tested our systems to the volunteers who helped gather data. This collective commitment is the backbone of what stands here today, and we greatly appreciate everyone's contribution.”

New year, new chapter
Now that ARISE is operational, this message marks a transition. This will be the final update on this website. ARISE continues to evolve, and we will keep you informed of our progress via our newsletter (sign up here).
On a practical note, there will be no ARISE Day in 2026, as the construction phase has concluded. Our partners at Naturalis are exploring potential alternatives, and we will let you know if there are any updates.
